Key Stage 3 

Throughout the course, students will have opportunities to develop their cultural capital. They will develop their reading and writing skills to prepare them for future learning and employment. Students will also have the opportunities to read texts from a range of different genres. 

Key Stage 4 - Lower 

Throughout the course, students will combine learning about creative media and performance arts with studying GCSE English Language. They will learn the characteristics of different genres of media and text types and apply this to their own work, adapting their writing to suit the audience and purpose of the task. 

They will learn to identify implicit and explicit meanings and the effects achieved by writers will support the development of reading skills. Drama and presentation tasks will support the development of speaking and listening skills. 

Key Stage 4 - Upper 

Throughout the course, students will learn the plot, characters, themes and language of each of the set texts, progressing from their individual starting points. They will develop their cultural capital and awareness of global issues through learning about the social and historical context. 

Students will learn how to adapt their writing to suit the audience and the purpose of the task. They will develop their reading skills, learning how to read for meaning and the difference between explicit and implicit meanings.
