Physical Education

Key Stage 2

Pupils will be aiming to develop their fundamental motor skills as research suggests these skills are the “building blocks” for more complex and specialised skills that pupils will need throughout their lives to competently participate in different games, sports and recreational activities looked at in KS3 and KS4.

These skills fall into 3 categories:

Locomotor Skills- are skills such as running and jumping which will be developed through every sport covered from football- athletics.

Balance Skills- are movements where the body moves around and axis, this will predominately be the focus in gymnastics.

Ball Skills- are skills which require throwing and catching and will be developed throughout rounders and dodgeball.

Key Stage 3 and 4

Pupils’ will be learning to develop a deep understanding in PE, as well as how to engage in physical activity in order for them to gain an aspect of enjoyment, an improvement in their mental health as well as an improvement in their physical health too. All pupils will be taught the importance of Physical activity in getting ready for life.

Pupils will be exploring a range of team sports and individual sports through a range of invasion games, striking and fielding games and gymnastics.
